INNISFAIL AND
DISTRICT HISTORICAL VILLAGE
The Innisfail
and District Historical Village originated in 1972 with the purpose
of preserving and housing the history of the Innisfail district. The
Village is open from mid May until Labour Day and offers a self guided
tour of the grounds. The Village hosts Friday afternoon teas from June
to September and all are welcome to drop in. Other special events throughout
the summer include Canada Day Celebrations, the Fiddlers Jamboree &
Strawberry Festival, the Harvest Festival and Octoberfest. Check the

DR.GEORGE / KEMP
HOUSE
The Dr. Henry George House, built in 1893, is another interesting historical
attraction in Innisfail. Dr. and Mrs. George established the first museum
in what was then the North West Territories. Their natural history collections
are echoed in their own museum housed on the main floor along with a
tearoom and dining area.
DISCOVERY WILDLIFE
PARK
Discovery Wildlife Park, located in Innisfail, will be the new home
for the Zoo and Noah's Ark.Discovery Wildlife Park displays both indigenous
and exotic species, however the main focus of the Park is to care for
Canadian wildlife orphans and to educated the public about them. dougszoo.com
ANTHONY HENDAY
CAMPGROUND
The Anthony Henday Campground is a Town of Innisfail facility open for
camping from May to October. The campground is located on the northwest
corner of Town where 56 Street intersects with Highway 54. The easiest
route to finding the campground is to stay on Highway 54 (Main Street)
from the Highway 2 overpass all the way through town to the west, cross
the tracks, and past the cemetery before turning right just before leaving
town to the west. More information is available from the Innisfail Town

The campground has
40 sites, 30 of which are serviced with electricity. Rates are $13.00
for power sites and $10.00 for the unserviced sites. There are a camp
kitchen and playground facilities on site. Hot showers, washroom facilities,
and firewood are also available. Tap water is available at several yard
hydrants on the grounds, sewage disposal site is located across town
on Highway 2A.
DESTINY TRAILS
/ LAKES
The Destiny Trails system of paved and natural trails links the entire
town with a 20 km trail network. The trail network provides recreational
trails for walking, jogging, bicycling, in-line skating, and cross country
skiing in winter.
ALBERTA SPORTS
HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM
Located along Highway 2 at Red Deer, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame
and Museum is an interactive, hands-on celebration of Alberta's sporting
history. The over 6000 square feet of exhibit space includes an interactive
hockey rink, baseball pitching field, Alpine Skiing machine and the
Honored Members Gallery.
DICKSON STORE
MUSEUM
Local enthusiasts of Danish descent have restored the Dickson General
Store. The store, open from mid May to Labour Day, was typical 1930's
style general store that sold groceries, hardware, dry goods and included
a post office.
GLENNIFER LAKE
Glennifer Lake is a man-made lake formed by the Dickson Dam. The lake
is 11 km long and 2 km wide, crystal clear and fed by the waters of
the Red Deer river. The lake can be used for recreation, such as boating
and fishing, and there are a number of campgrounds, picnic areas and
year-round camp resorts.
HISTORIC MARKERVILLE
CREAMERY
A half hour southwest of Red Deer off Highways 592 and 781 is Markerville.
The creamery is open 10:00 am - 5:30 pm daily, May 15 to Labour Day,
and weekends in September. There is a coffee shop specializing in Icelandic
foods, "Pint size" gift shop and interpretive tours. Admission for tours.

MEDICINE RIVER
WILDLIFE REHAB CENTRE
West of Spruce View, 4 km south and 1 km east of Raven, is the Medicine
River Wildlife Rehab Centre. The only wildlife hospital in Central Alberta,
the centre welcomes visitors with educational displays and outdoor and
indoor wildlife watching opportunities.
RCMP POLICE DOG
TRAINING FACILITY
South of Innisfail on Highway 2 is the only RCMP Police Dog Training
Facility in Canada. To see this facility first hand Wednesdays at 1:30
pm or phone 403-227-3346.
STEPHANSSON HOUSE
PROVINCIAL HISTORIC SITE
Stephan G. Stephansson, a famous Icelandic poet, built this small Victorian
farmhouse. This site is open from mid May to Labour Day.
DAINES RODEO
RANCH
Every year three major events dominate the calendar at the Daines Rodeo
Ranch. On the second Sunday of May (Mothers Day) the Daines Rodeo Ranch
hosts the annual Bucking Horse Sale. The Innisfail Professional Rodeo
held in mid June has run consecutively for 40 years drawing rodeo fans
and cowboys from across Western Canada and the U.S. The August long
weekend sees the Daines Rodeo Ranch hosting the annual Ivan Daines Cowboy
