Community Services Coordinator:

Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) is a partnership between the province, municipalities and Metis Settlements that develops locally driven preventative social initiatives to enhance the well being of individuals, families and communities. Innisfail’s FCSS is involved in programs such as Healthy Families, Home Support, Big Brothers & Sisters, Victim Services, and D.A.R.E.
The provincial mandate of the program is to promote volunteerism and to develop programs that are preventive in nature in order to:
- enhance, strengthen and stabilize family and community life;
- improve people’s ability to identify and act on their own needs;
- help avert family or community social breakdown;
- help prevent small problems from turning into crisis;
- provide citizens with information about its planning and operation
- encourage co-operation and co-ordination with other service agencies
The FCSS philosophy is based on a belief that self-help contributes to a sense of integrity, self-worth and independence. The programs, which are developed, are intended to help individuals in their community to adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby improving the quality of life. FCSS emphasizes local authority for programming, based on a belief that communities have the desire, energy and resources for self-improvement.
Types of programs that could receive FCSS funding may include:
- Services that promote the social development of children and their families
- Services that enrich and strengthen family life by developing skills in people to function more effectively within their own environment
- Services that enhance the quality of life of the retired and semi-retired
- Services designed to promote, encourage and support volunteer work in the community
- Services designed to inform the public of available services
FCSS is:
- a partnership (between the town and provincial government)
- volunteerism
- prevention
- based on community needs
FCSS is not:
-
recreational, rehabilitative or treatment
- direct financial aid for individuals or families
- total funding for a project
- long term funding
Innisfail’s FCSS Board consists of 1 Town Councilor, 1 Ministerial Association representative and 5 citizens at large. They meet once per month except in July and August. Their mandate/role is to identify community issues/needs and review proposals and make recommendation to Town Council regarding funding of programs.
